Startup runway calculator

See what a hire, a contract or a new expense does to your runway before you commit to it. Enter your cash and monthly burn, add up to four decisions, and compare. It is free, there is nothing to sign up for, and your numbers are never sent to us. The calculator remembers what you typed until you close this tab, so a reload does not erase it. Press Reset to clear it now. All amounts are in US dollars.

Estimate only, not financial advice. Assumes steady burn and ignores taxes, payment delays and seasonality.

    How runway is calculated

Runway is your cash divided by your monthly burn. Burn is spending minus money coming in, each month. A month here is 30 days, so $90,000 of cash at $12,000 of burn is 7.5 months, or 225.0 days.

A decision that happens once changes your cash on the month you pick. A decision that repeats changes your monthly burn from the month you pick, for as long as you say it lasts. The calculator follows your cash month by month and reports the point where it reaches zero.

As a rule of thumb, many founders aim for 12 to 18 months of runway while they are raising.
